Bills Sign Hardman, Elevate Davis to Bolster WRs
Buffalo Bills Add Offensive Firepower Amid Passing Struggles
The Buffalo Bills have made significant roster moves to address their inconsistent passing game, signing wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. to the active roster and elevating Gabe Davis from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's crucial matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A Fresh Start for Mecole Hardman
After joining the Bills' practice squad just four days ago, Hardman has quickly earned a spot on the 53-man roster. The 26-year-old speedster brings a wealth of NFL experience, having accumulated 178 receptions for 2,302 yards and 16 touchdowns during his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. His addition is particularly valuable as a return specialist, with 819 punt return yards and 1,073 kickoff return yards to his name, including two touchdowns.
"I'm happy for any opportunity," Hardman said during practice this week. "Whether it's on offense or special teams, I'm ready to contribute." Hardman also highlighted his versatility, noting comfort playing both slot and outside receiver positions, and expressed excitement about reuniting with quarterback Josh Allen and running back James Cook, with whom he developed chemistry in Kansas City.

Gabe Davis Returns from Injury
The Bills also elevated Gabe Davis, who has been sidelined since early October while recovering from a torn left meniscus. The 26-year-old has been a significant contributor in his first five NFL seasons, tallying 2,969 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns. His return provides Buffalo with a proven deep threat to complement their existing receiving corps.
"I'm ready to go," Davis confirmed, emphasizing his eagerness to help the Bills overcome their offensive inconsistencies. "It's all about execution and making plays when opportunities arise."
Addressing Offensive Woes
These moves come after Buffalo's offense hit a season-low with just 13 points in last week's loss to the Miami Dolphins. The Bills have clearly prioritized bolstering their wide receiver depth, and the combination of Hardman's explosiveness and Davis's size and experience could provide a much-needed spark.
"We needed playmakers," said head coach Sean McDermott. "Both Mecole and Gabe bring different skill sets that can help us stretch the field and create more opportunities."
Additional Roster Adjustments
The Bills made three other key transactions:
- Activated rookie defensive tackle T.J. Sanders from injured reserve. The second-round pick missed four games with a knee injury but has been a full participant in practice this week.
- Released cornerback Brandon Codrington to clear roster space.
- Elevated tight end Keleki Latu from the practice squad as the third tight end, with Dalton Kincaid ruled out.

Looking Ahead: Sunday's Showdown
With these additions, the Bills aim to reignite their offense against a Buccaneers defense that has allowed an average of 245 passing yards per game this season. Hardman and Davis could see immediate roles, particularly in three-receiver sets and special teams.
"This is about winning games," Hardman stated. "I'm here to help this team however I can." As Buffalo looks to bounce back and solidify its playoff position, these new faces could provide the offensive spark needed to get back on track.
"He [Hardman] adds another dynamic element to our offense," Josh Allen noted during practice. "His speed and ability to make plays after the catch are things we've been missing."
