Fallout Season 2: New Vegas Characters & Canon
Introduction to New Vegas
As Fallout Season 2 premieres on December 17, fans are buzzing about the show's iconic shift to New Vegas—the neon-drenched wasteland from one of gaming's most beloved RPGs. Set 20 years after the events of Fallout: New Vegas, the series promises to recreate the Mojave's unique blend of chaos, intrigue, and dark humor. But with the show's expanded scope comes burning questions: Which characters might return, and how will the series handle the game's multiple endings?
The Canon Conundrum
One of the most debated topics is how Fallout Season 2 will address New Vegas's four possible endings (NCR victory, Caesar's Legion rule, Mr. House's control, or an independent New Vegas). According to actor Aaron Moten (Maximus), the show might avoid choosing a single canon ending. Instead, it could explore how different factions interpret history through their own biased lenses:
"Different perspectives will have a different perspective on who won and who lost," Moten explained. "History is written in the wasteland by whoever writes it."
This approach would honor the game's spirit of moral ambiguity while avoiding alienation of players whose choices varied. The teaser already hints at this, with The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) challenging Lucy's perception of "winning factions."
Odds on Character Appearances
New Vegas is packed with memorable characters. Here are the most likely candidates to join the show:
Mr. House (Odds: 1/1)
Confirmed to appear! The trailer shows pre-war Mr. House (Justin Theroux) and his post-war digital form. Though players could kill him in the game, the show seems to position him as New Vegas' eternal puppet master.
Mr. New Vegas (Odds: 2/1)
The voice of Wayne Newton is a shoo-in. As Mr. House's radio mouthpiece, he's synonymous with the Strip's atmosphere. Newton's continued Vegas performances make a cameo highly probable.
Raul Tejada (Odds: 3/1)
Danny Trejo's ghoul companion is a fan favorite. With his 200+ year lifespan, he could easily exist in the show's timeline. However, his role might be limited since The Ghoul already fills the "wise ghoul mentor" archetype.
Veronica Santangelo (Odds: 4/1)
With Brotherhood of Steel airships in the trailer, Felicia Day's Brotherhood dissenter could reappear. Her reformist ideals align with Maximus' storyline, and her power fist even appears in the promo!
Walton Goggins: The Ghoul's New Vegas Connection
As the show's breakout star, Walton Goggins' Ghoul will anchor the narrative in New Vegas. His pre-war ties to the region (hinted at in Season 1) could intersect with characters like Marcus (Odds: 6/1) or the Legion's Legate Lanius (Odds: 25/1). The Ghoul's cynical worldview will contrast sharply with New Vegas' glitzy facade.
Long Shots
While Boone (Odds: 8/1) or Billy Knight (Odds: 5/1) could cameo, their stories feel less central. And the Mysterious Stranger? As a game perk rather than a character, his odds are a laughable 100/1.
What to Expect
With eight episodes, Season 2 will likely focus on 2-3 major characters while weaving New Vegas' political factions (NCR, Legion, House, and independent groups) into the tapestry. The show's strength lies in translating the game's themes—corporate control, war profiteering, and the cost of nostalgia—into live-action drama.
As we countdown to December 17, one thing's certain: New Vegas will deliver a darker, more decadent corner of the wasteland. Whether you're rooting for Mr. House's return or hoping to hear Wayne Newton's crooning voice again, the show promises to honor the game's legacy while forging its own path.
