Kevin Brown Commits to WVU: Top OL Pick for Mountaineers
In a major recruiting victory for West Virginia University, elite 2026 offensive lineman Kevin Brown has committed to the Mountaineers, bringing top-tier talent and legacy prestige to the program. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound tackle made the announcement live on ESPN's Pat McAfee Show, sending waves through college football recruiting circles.
A Legacy Commitment
Brown's commitment carries significant weight as the son of former WVU offensive lineman Tim Brown, who played for the Mountaineers from 1999-2004 under coaches including Rich Rodriguez. The younger Brown follows in his father's footsteps, bringing both bloodlines and blue-chip potential to Morgantown.
"There were a few things that stood out," Brown said after his official WVU visit. "The coaches and how much they care, and how much they wanted me there. And second, the nutrition and how many people they have there to make sure you succeed. Everything there was top notch."
From Penn State to WVU
Brown's journey to WVU was closely watched across the nation. Originally committed to Penn State since summer 2024, he reopened his recruitment following the firing of Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin. This triggered a flurry of interest from elite programs including Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, and Notre Dame.
After taking official visits to West Virginia and Ohio State, Brown was particularly impressed with the culture and resources at WVU. "I've been all over the country and they had it all," he emphasized. The Mountaineers secured his pledge just before the early signing period begins December 3.
Elite Talent on the Rise
Ranked as the nation's No. 6 offensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite and No. 9 overall OL prospect, Brown brings exceptional athleticism to the line. Scouts highlight his foot quickness, aggressive tendencies, and ability to dominate in both run-blocking and pass-protection scenarios.
"A workout warrior that could play multiple spots up front," notes 247Sports scouting director Andrew Ivins. "Shoots out of his stance and can climb to the second level with ease... Not the longest individual, which suggests that his long-term future is likely on the interior."
Immediate Impact for WVU
Brown plans to enroll at WVU in January and participate in spring football, positioning him to make an early impact. His addition significantly boosts the Mountaineers' offensive line development, addressing a critical position group for head coach Rich Rodriguez's program.
Currently leading Harrisburg High School to a 12-0 record and PIAA Class 6A state quarterfinals, Brown has proven his mettle against elite competition. His commitment signals WVU's growing prowess in securing top Pennsylvania talent, a key recruiting territory for the program.
This commitment represents a signature piece for WVU's 2026 class and reaffirms the program's momentum as it competes with national powers for premier recruits.
