Devastating Blaze Engulfs Lehi Apartment Development

A massive fire has completely destroyed three buildings at an under-construction apartment complex in Lehi, Utah, in a dramatic early-morning blaze. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in the Traverse Mountain Area near Point of the Mountain, with flames visible for miles along Interstate 15.

Key Details of the Incident

The fire rapidly engulfed the Alta Vista apartment development by Wood Partners, which was planned to include 304 units. Three structures were damaged: two apartment buildings and a clubhouse. Despite the intensity of the blaze, remarkably no injuries were reported.

"My security guard said he had just made a round around the building and there was absolutely nothing... He turned around and saw smoke and the flames starting."

— James Wilson, Senior Superintendent, Wood Partners

James Wilson, the project's senior superintendent, expressed bewilderment about how the fire could have started. The site features 24/7 security with multiple cameras, and there were no heat sources on the premises since buildings were only in the framing stages.

Investigation and Aftermath

Lehi Fire Chief Jeremy Craft confirmed the fire is contained but crews will monitor hot spots in the rubble through the night. Investigators anticipate a 4-5 day process to sift through the debris, using scent-trained dogs to detect potential arson.

The scene presents unique challenges, as two cranes at the site became unstable from fire damage. A larger crane will be brought in on Monday to safely dismantle them, allowing for better access to the investigation area.

Residents are advised to avoid the north end of Traverse Mountain, including Flight Park Road and nearby walking trails, until further notice.

Community Impact

The fire represents a significant loss for the rapidly growing Traverse Mountain community. The Alta Vista project was designed as high-density housing to accommodate the region's population expansion. While the community faces disruption, the lack of injuries offers a silver lining.

"This was a devastating event, but the safety of our workers and the community remains our top priority," Wilson added. "We're cooperating fully with investigators and will address the situation responsibly."

Fire officials continue to monitor the area and will provide updates as the investigation progresses. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
