Former Fox News Contributor's Blog Resurfacing Ahead of UN Nomination Hearing

Ahead of her crucial confirmation hearing for a key diplomatic role, State Department nominee Tammy Bruce faces renewed scrutiny over inflammatory statements unearthed in her archived personal blog. CNN's K-File investigation, published recently, reveals years of controversial posts targeting Muslims, former President Barack Obama, and the United Nations itself, casting a shadow over her nomination as U.S. Deputy Representative to the United Nations.

Anti-Muslim Remarks Post-9/11

The most contentious remarks stem directly from the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. In now-deleted blog posts, Bruce, who has since been nominated by President Donald Trump for the UN post, demanded that American Muslims demonstrate their loyalty in a way she felt was lacking. In a July 2002 post, she wrote:

"Since the attacks on our country, we have indeed been kissing the proverbial derriere of the American Muslim establishment, and it’s time we stopped. It is now their turn to do the right thing and go out of their way to show us that they are American – first and foremost."

She further stated: "(The) Muslim establishment in this country should be tripping over themselves to prove they’re with us and are loyal and sympathetic." These comments, framing American Muslims as needing to prove their patriotism, are central to the controversy surrounding her nomination.

Attacks on Former President Obama

Bruce's blog also contained extensive and derogatory attacks on former President Barack Obama. She repeatedly questioned his birthplace and faith, falsely suggesting he was Muslim. In a post referencing a 2008 ABC interview where Obama momentarily said "my Muslim faith" before being corrected by George Stephanopoulos, Bruce claimed he had a "compulsion to confess" his Muslim identity. She also infamously wrote:

"Somewhere in Kenya a village is missing its idiot."

Additionally, she referred to Obama as a "dumb bastard" and engaged in birther conspiracy theories, rhetoric that has been widely condemned as racist and disrespectful.

Criticisms of the United Nations

Beyond figures, Bruce directed significant ire towards the United Nations, the very body she is nominated to represent. In her blog, she labeled the UN an "enemy" of the United States. She accused the organization of "ignoring genocide" and possessing "Jew-hatred at its core." In 2007, she criticized the Empire State Building for switching its lights to green to honor Ramadan, stating: "This must stop. This act is an insult to every who dies on September 11, but to the 4,000 plus who have died fighting Islamists since then."

Nomination Hearing and Fallout

These resurfaced comments come as Bruce is scheduled to appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for her confirmation hearing. The CNN report highlights the potential political firestorm, as her past rhetoric directly contradicts the diplomatic tone required for a role at the UN. Neither Bruce nor the White House has commented publicly on the specific findings of the CNN report. The discovery of these inflammatory statements, particularly the post-9/11 views on American Muslims and the derogatory remarks about Obama, is certain to be a focal point during the confirmation process, raising questions about her suitability for the sensitive diplomatic position.
