Urgent Safety Alerts: Walmart Recalls Hazardous Camping Stoves and Children's Helmets

Major retailer Walmart, in coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has recently issued urgent recalls for two widely sold products due to significant safety risks. Affected consumers are urged to immediately stop using these items and take action for refunds. The recalls highlight critical dangers ranging from severe burns to potentially fatal head injuries.

Exploding Camping Stoves Pose Fire and Burn Risks

A recall affecting approximately 201,000 units centers on the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stoves. The CPSC warns that these stoves, sold under the Ozark Trail brand, can explode or catch fire, posing serious burn and fire hazards to users. The model number involved is BG2247A1, printed on a gray label inside the fuel compartment. The stoves are dark green with a distinctive orange "Ozark Trail" logo on the front.

Manufactured by China Window Industry Co., Ltd. of Taipei, Taiwan, and imported by Walmart Inc., the stoves were sold nationwide at Walmart stores and online via Walmart.com from March 2023 through October 2025, priced between $8 and $45. The recall stems from alarming incident reports: the manufacturer has received 26 reports of the stoves exploding or catching fire, resulting in 16 incidents of second-degree burns to consumers.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled stoves and return the product to any Walmart retail store for a full refund." - U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)

Walmart has fully cooperated with the CPSC on this recall. Owners of the recalled stoves should discontinue use immediately and return the product to any Walmart store for a full refund. For further information, consumers can contact Walmart Customer Service at 800-925-6278 or visit Walmart's recall page. The recall number is 26-120.

Children's Helmets Fail Safety Standards, Risking Head Injury

In a separate recall, the CPSC is alerting consumers about approximately 24,300 Outdoor Master children's and youth helmets. These helmets, sold online at both Amazon.com and Walmart.com from June 2024 through February 2025 for $20-$32, do not comply with mandatory bicycle helmet safety standards. Specifically, they fail to meet requirements for positional stability and head coverage, meaning they can fail to adequately protect a child's head in a crash, posing a risk of serious injury or death.

The recall involves two specific models:

  • Model OM-TD BIKE: Blue helmet with a dinosaur print, black padding, black straps, and a black buckle. Sold in children's size small (S), head circumference 48–52 cm. "OM-TD BIKE" and "05/2024" are marked inside; "Outdoor Master" is on the back.
  • Model OM-KSKB: Deep green helmet with black padding, yellow straps, a black buckle, and a black plastic knob at the back. Sold in youth size small (S), head circumference 46–52 cm. "OM-KSKB" and "11/2022" are marked inside; "Outdoor Master" is on the front and back.

While no injuries have been reported with these specific helmets to date, the potential risk is severe. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets. To receive a full refund, owners must contact the manufacturer, Outdoor Master, for instructions on how to register their product. Refund requests can be made via email at [email protected] or through the company's recall website. The recall number is 26-122.

What Consumers Should Do Next

Both recalls emphasize the critical importance of heeding safety warnings. If you own either of these products:

  1. Stop Use Immediately: Do not use the recalled camping stove or helmets.
  2. Identify Your Product: Check for the specific model numbers and identifiers described above.
  3. Seek a Refund:
    • For the Ozark Trail Stove: Return it to any Walmart store for a full refund.
    • For the Outdoor Master Helmets: Contact Outdoor Master directly to register for a refund.
  4. Stay Informed: Bookmark relevant recall pages and sign up for CPSC email alerts.

These recalls serve as a stark reminder that product safety can sometimes be compromised, even from major retailers. Vigilance and prompt action upon recall announcements are essential for protecting yourself and your loved ones from preventable harm.
