Yang Hansen's G-League Rise
Yang Hansen Shines for Rip City Remix, Making His Mark in G-League
The Portland Trail Blazers' rookie sensation, Yang Hansen, has been turning heads in the NBA G-League, proving he's more than just a draft pick. After a slow start to the NBA season, Hansen was assigned to the Rip City Remix, the Blazers' G-League affiliate, where he has immediately made his presence felt.
In his debut game against the Valley Suns on November 15, Hansen was a force to be reckoned with. He started and played 29 minutes, contributing 8 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. His performance was instrumental in the Remix's 107-104 come-from-behind victory. Despite shooting struggles from the field (4 of 11), Hansen's impact was felt beyond scoring.
Hansen's versatility on display included a powerful two-handed dunk, a series of clutch rebounds, and impressive court vision. His ability to facilitate from the center position was evident, as he delivered several pinpoint passes, including a no-look assist during a fast break. This performance hinted at the potential that made him a 16th overall pick in this year's NBA draft.
[blockquote] "Perhaps a sign of what’s to come in the NBA?" - Brandon Mullen, Blazer's Edge[/blockquote]Just a few days later, Hansen continued his stellar play. In a narrow 111-113 loss to the South Bay Lakers, he erupted for a career-high 21 points, to go along with 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. This back-to-back productive performance has silenced any doubts about his ability to compete at a high level.
His early struggles in the NBA were a point of discussion. After averaging just 1.8 points and 0.8 rebounds in limited minutes, Hansen found himself on the sidelines when veteran center Robert Williams III returned from injury. The assignment to the G-League was seen as an opportunity to regain his rhythm and confidence.
The results speak for themselves. Hansen is showing flashes of the player the Blazers envisioned when they selected him. His combination of size, skill, and basketball IQ is translating well to the G-League level, and it's only a matter of time before he earns another shot in the NBA.
With the Remix scheduled for more games and the Blazers on an East Coast road trip, Hansen will have ample opportunity to continue his development. If he keeps playing at this level, it won't be long before he's back in Rip City, making an impact for the Blazers.
